Who We Are

In 2008, Wayne & Marguerite Sonoda, founders of Sonoda Foundation Inc., were called into the mission field to a community just 90 minutes south of the US border in Baja California, Mexico. Before being called into the mission field, In 2008, they began house building projects which to date have totaled over 40 homes. Through these past 14 years, they've been blessed with hundreds of relationships and have been inspired to expand their ministries in the community. Therefore, in early 2022, Wayne & Marguerite launched the Sonoda Foundation. With a clearer insight to the critical needs they've experienced, in addition to providing shelter, they passionately aspire to raise support for education, as well as feeding, clothing and life skill advancement programs to help end the cycle of poverty in the community. In late 2021, they helped plant a Christian church just south of Ensenada B.C. called Comunidad Encuentro. They serve on the board and are deeply involved with ministering to the spiritual health of the church as well as the community. Before being called into the mission field, Wayne & Marguerite were married in 2003. They have one daughter, Xochitl, son in law Dustin and two grandsons. Lennox Antonio, 2 in March, 2024 and Mateo Mason, arriving in September, 2023.

Late In 2022, the Sonoda Foundation was extremely blessed to welcome Robert

Alvarez to our team. Robert had been invited to partner with us in our missions since the late 2000's but was skeptical to cross the border. In 2017 he visited for one day and had no desire to

return, but he was able to see for himself who and where we served. Late in 2021, Robert

answered the call and was part of a team that provided shelter for a family living

on a dirt floor. That experience ignited his calling to ministry in this community

and he caught the vision of the Sonoda Foundation from that first day on. Robert currently serves as our Vice President and Treasurer. Robert has a daughter Daisy, 23 and a son Bobby, 16.
